Catalyst Magic[edit]

This rule is a (mild) nerf to casters, by requiring them to carry a "catalyst" such as a magic wand, club, or staff to cast their magic.

A catalyst can be almost anything, but traditionally it is a club or quarterstaff. Whatever it is, the price is increased by +15 gp to make it a "catalyst". A spellcaster cannot cast without a catalyst in hand, though they may make somatic components just fine with the catalyst in spite of the hand being full.
