Chainclaw

1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.


Chainclaws are often kept hidden under large sleeves such as these, often in pairs.

A bizaare weapon from an exotic land, the chainclaw is a gauntlet wrapped up in mechanical gears and a study chain, which at the end hang oversized mechanical claws with limited dexterity, allowing the user to flex their fingers and the claws squeeze in kind. By swinging the arms and controling the length of the chain with the mechanics, you can slash out at targets both near and far.

A chainclaw has reach, so you can strike opponents 10 feet away with it. In addition, unlike most other weapons with reach, it can be used against an adjacent foe.

Because it is a gauntlet, you cannot be disarmed. Equipping or unequipping your chainclaw takes as much time as donning a shield (a move action) which is not effected by the Quick Draw feat. You can still manipulate objects with your chainclaw hands, but you take a -4 penalty to any dexterity checks and attack rolls made holding another weapon in your chainclaw. However, you do gain a +4 bonus on climb checks and can make a use rope check to use the chain claw like a grappling hook, provided the length is no longer than your range (typically 10 ft).

Because of the functional similarity between the chainclaw and spiked chain, any feats and class abilities which function on spiked chains also function on chainclaws. You can’t wield a chainclaw in two hands in order to apply 1½ times your Strength bonus to damage.

You can make trip attacks with the chainclaw. If you are tripped during your own trip attempt, you cannot drop the chainclaws to avoid being tripped.

You can use the Weapon Finesse feat to apply your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to attack rolls with a chainclaw sized for you, even though it isn’t a light weapon for you.
