With a deep rumble, the statues came to life. Carved in the form of mighty athletes and the idealized man, they stare at you unfliching and uncompromising as the stone they are made.

This golem has a humanoid body made from stone. Its body is frequently stylized to suit its creator. For example, it might look like it is wearing armor, with a particular symbol carved on the breastplate, have designs worked into the stone of its limbs, or simply have no design at all appearing much like an earth elemental. A stone golem is 9 feet tall and weighs around 2,000 pounds.

A stronger version of the stone golem exists as the greater stone golem. More than simply an advanced HD version of the stone golem, the greater stone golem has superior strength and abilities to its lesser counterpart. A greater stone golem is 18 feet tall and weighs around 32,000 pounds.

Neither golem speaks, but they can produce a rumbling sound of rocks against rock.

Combat (Stone Golem)[edit]

A stone golem is straight forward in combat, attacking the biggest threat to its survival in the room or the closest person barring that. Typically they are under direct orders which take priority, though as golems they can be awfully literal minded.

Aura of Rubble (Su): A stone golem disrupts the earth around it making it difficult to pass. When on a earth, sand, stone, or cobblestone surface the surroundings within the natural reach of the golem (10 feet) is treated as difficult terrain. The golem is unaffected by its own difficult terrain.

Extraordinary Health (Ex): A stone golem recieves maximum hit points per HD.

Immunity to Magic (Ex): A stone golem is immune to any spell or spell-like ability that allows spell resistance. In addition, certain spells and effects function differently against the creature, as noted below.

A transmute rock to mud spell slows a stone golem (as the slow spell) for 2d6 rounds, with no saving throw, while transmute mud to rock heals all of its lost hit points.

A stone to flesh spell does not actually change the golem’s structure but negates its damage reduction and immunity to magic for 1 full round.

Quake (Su): A stone golem can stomp its foot as a standard action to cause a small earthquake in a 30 foot radius around it. All creatures in the area must make a DC 19 Reflex save or fall prone and take 5d4 points of nonlethal damage, save negates. The save DC is Constitution-based with a +4 racial bonus based on its size.

Rock Toss (Ex): A stone golem can throw rocks up to 40 to 50 pounds each (Small objects) up to five range increments. The range increment is 110 feet.

Slow (Su): A stone golem has a powerful gravity around it which can affect others near it. It can use a slow effect, as the spell, as a free action once every 2 rounds. The effect has a range of 10 feet and a duration of 1 minute, requiring a DC 19 Will save to negate. The save DC is Constitution-based with a +4 racial bonus based on its size.

Combat (Greater Stone Golem)[edit]

Greater Stone Golems possess all of the above abilities the with following changes.

Quake (Su): A greater stone golem has a DC 26 Reflex save or fall prone and take 8d4 points of nonlethal damage, save negates. The save DC is Constitution-based with a +8 racial bonus based on its size.

Rock Toss (Ex): A greater stone golem can throw rocks up to 60 to 80 pounds each (Medium objects) up to five range increments. The range increment is 160 feet.

Slow (Su): A greater stone golem's slow ability is DC 26 Will save to negate. The save DC is Constitution-based with a +8 racial bonus based on its size. In addition if it uses its slow ability on a creature already slowed and the creature fails its saving throw, the creature is instead petrified for 1 minute as if affected by flesh to stone.

CONSTRUCTION[edit]

A stone golem’s body is chiseled from a single block of hard stone, such as granite, weighing at least 3,000 pounds. The stone must be of exceptional quality, and costs 5,000 gp. Assembling the body requires a DC 17 Craft (sculpting) check or a DC 17 Craft (stonemasonry) check.

CL 14th; Craft Construct, antimagic field, earthquake, geas/quest, slow, caster must be at least 14th level; Price 90,000 gp; Cost 50,000 gp + 3,400 XP.

A greater stone golem is identical in all respects but the amount of stone used, 40,000 lbs of granite, and its price. flesh to stone; Price 196,000 gp; Cost 105,000 gp + 7,640 XP.
