Force Missile Specialist[edit]

You can never have enuff dakka.
—Gorkenmorken, Orc Force Missile Specialist, Dakka, and Grow Stronk: A guide to success in orc business.

They laughed at you. They called you obsessed, insane, a madman. A mage who focused on a single spell alone to the exclusion of all others. Such dedication, especially on a mere blast, would never bring results.

But they were wrong. So wrong.

They will fear you and your missiles, for once they fly there is no escape from your endless wrath.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Force Missile Specialist.

Spellcasting: At each level except first, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Force Missile Specialist, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Bonus Missile: At 1st, 3rd, and 5th levels the force missile specialist gains an extra magic missile whenever he casts magic missile or spells and spell-like abilities that otherwise duplicate the effects of magic missile. This can allow him to exceed the number of missiles normally granted due to caster level.

Caster Level Bonus: Although their focus on a single spell hampers their spellcasting progression, their caster level remains unhampered, gaining a +1 bonus to caster level.

Combat Missile (Ex): Casting magic missile (or any spells or spell-like effects based off magic missile) no longer provokes attacks of opportunity for casting.

Spontaneous Magic Missile: The force missile specialist can spontaneously convert any spell slot or spell per day into a casting of magic missile of equal or higher value than the spell being cast.

Improved Targeting (Ex): Normally magic missile can only strike creatures. A 2nd level force missile specialist has found ways to target objects, or even points in space. If you attack a point of space where a creature is (regardless if you were aware it was there or not) the magic missiles automatically strike the creature in the square as normal.

Instant Shield: As part of mastering magic missile, you must also master its counterpart, shield. At 2nd level you can cast shield as an immediate action.

Overpowering Missile (Ex): At 3rd level, the force missile specialist's magic missile spells (or any spells or spell-like effects based off magic missile) become especially potent, breaking through spell resistance more readily than normal. He gains a +2 bonus on caster level checks made to overcome a creature's spell resistance with the spell magic missile. In addition, a force missile specialists magic missiles might penetrate shield spells and Brooches of Shielding. Against such protections, the force missile mage makes a caster level check with a DC equal to the caster level, in the case of shield, or DC 20, in the case of a brooch.

Reflective Shield (Su): At 4th level, a force missile specialist can reflect the spell magic missile (or any spells or spell-like effects based off magic missile). For the purposes of being affected by magic missile, a force missile specialist is constantly treated as being under the effect of the spell spell turning, thus reflecting offensive magic missiles back at the caster. If that caster is protected by a shield spell or a Brooch of Shielding, these reflected magic missiles are negated as normal. Missiles reflected back against a caster who also has spell turning in effect require the force missile specialist to roll on the spell turning mishap chart.

Heighten Missile (Ex): At 4th level, the force missile specialist's magic missile spells (or any spells or spell-like effects based off magic missile) may be treated as if cast in their highest level spell slot available -1 (minimum 1st), such as when interacting with a globe of invulnerability, or metamagic which gives magic missile a save DC.

Swift Missile: The 5th level force missile specialist may cast magic missile (or any spells or spell-like effects based off magic missile) as a swift action with no change in its effective spell level.

Uncapped Magic Missile: At 5th level, there is no longer a cap on magic missile. It continues to scale, gaining new missiles every odd caster level.

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing a Force Missile Specialist[edit]

Combat: I've got a secret about the combat. Do you know what it is? It's two words... and it rhymes with "flajick fissile".

Advancement: Well, you are a spellcaster. More spellcasting advancement seems like a fine idea.

Resources: Sadly any attempts to organize the world's force missile specialists ends up magic missiles going everywhere forever, so such meet ups are banned. Forever.

Force Missile Specialists in the World[edit]

I cast magic missile at the darkness!
—Black Mage, Black Magey Wizard

NPC Reactions: NPCs have no reactions. For they are dead. From magic missiles.

Force Missile Specialist Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge Arcana can research Force Missile Specialists to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge Arcana
DC Result
10 Some mages really love magic missile. Force missile specialists cast that spell all the time forever.
15 Force missile specialists can target the untargetable and bring up anti-missile defended in a flash. They can even try to breach your shields!
20 Powerful force missile specialists have no limit on the number of missiles they might deploy in their life. Sometimes they go nuts and spray missiles everywhere rapidly.
30 Those that reach this level of success can determine details about a partial specialist, his favorite spell (you won't believe what it is), behavior, lore, and other details.

Force Missile Specialists in the Game[edit]

Sample Encounter: It is raining magic missiles. It will never stop. You are all dead.

EL Infinity+1: You can never stop the missiles. The missiles are coming. The missiles are here. The missiles are love. The missiles are life.
