Orckin Goblin[edit]

Within the vast and varies climates in the world, various races have adapted to their environments and adopted different cultures to fit. The elves and their many subraces are testament to this fact, but they are not the only ones. Among the goblinoid races the lowly goblin has proven to be as genetically varied as any elf. Some would take advantage of this and breed their own goblin, a goblin designed for aid on the battlefield known as the orckin goblin.

Orckin goblins are a lowly lot. They are made, not born, an artificial race with a rapid lifespan to act as mooks and foot soldiers for ancient armies. Their original creators are long gone, but the violent orckin goblins remain and make war to this day.

Personality[edit]

The orckin goblin is a cowardly and abused sort whose heart nevertheless is filled with rage and hate. Many are created and bred to die in war and they know of their position as tools and fodder. For this reason they fear death and hate their creators, yet in the same breath they are hopeless to resist for they lack the willpower and drive to stand up for themselves and risk their lives for a greater cause. On the other hand, evem when raised in a peaceful and relaxed environment they rarely find peace, for war is in their blood. The only comfort from the feelings of powerlessness is the rush of adrenaline in battle. Many end up as criminals, murderers, or wanderers who leave in order to find somewhere or someone to take their aggression out on.

Physical Description[edit]

Orckin goblins are short deformed humanoids with long gnarly noses, pointed ears, and a heavy underbite with tusks not unlike an orc. In fact the resemblance to a tiny deformed orc is uncanny and purposeful, for orc blood runs inside them as well. Their skin tones range from various greens, grays, and rarely human skin tones and they have sparse and messy hair of various drab and generally dark colors. They have a hunched posture making them look shorter than they actually are.

The most unique aspect to the orckin is not in their appearance, but their creation. Orckin are not natural beings. They are created in vile birthing pits, strange organic pools of biomass which eject orckin from egg-like sacs. These birthing pits are created through strange rituals largely lost to time. In distant past they were created by powerful spellcasters as a quick-growing expendable soldier, a figurative wall of flesh to overcome and drown their enemies. The old wars have passed, and their ancient creators with it, but sometimes the spell to make a birthing pit appears or a once-dormant pit becomes active again and releases more of their kind unto the world.

As a result, orckin goblin only come in a single gender, a non-gender. Some orckin goblins may choose to self-identify as male or female, or possess more masculine or feminine traits, but their sex is non-applicable. In addition they are born nearly as adults, rapidly learning how to walk within hours, talk within weeks, and kill the second they're born. An "adult" orckin goblin is ready within 6 months to a year, but an adult who is capable of being another mindless cog of the army like many adventurers may require a few more years.

Relations[edit]

When one's race is born from vile magic, bred for war, and programmed for violence one does not make many friends. This is especially true against their ancient enemies, dwarves and gnomes, and it is said it was orckin goblins who were the goblins largely responsible for the dwarves and gnome's own cultural biases against goblinkind. The only race they get along with (in loose terms) are the orcs, and the orcs largely only do so because they are the ones breeding them for wars. The orckin goblins are traditionally a slave caste for certain orc tribes.

In some enlightened communities of orcs they may treat orckin goblins as people but they are often still looked down on, especially with the knowledge that these goblins are half-orc themselves and thus a shame to their species. Thus the orckin goblins have a love/hate relationship with orcs, enjoying relative peace and safety but also hating the control shackled upon them.

Sadly for their race, even alone they rarely get along. Colonies of only orckin goblins have torn themselves apart with infighting as none would or could assume leadership. Only with a strong leader do they focus their aggression on something that isn't themselves.

Alignment[edit]

Orckin goblins are often evil, and trend towards chaos. Their lust for blood make them the ultimate chicken-hawks, but their cowardliness leaves them trying to flee if presented with the opportunity to a fight not bent in their favor.

Lands[edit]

Orckin goblins have no home of their own, though the original breeding pits were found in ancient orc territories, furthering the belief that it was an ancient extinct breed of orc which brought them into being. Now they wander or are created by others with less than pure motives.

Religion[edit]

Orckin goblins are usually not religious, rarely having the time to ponder such mysteries. Those that do adopt gods of war, thieves, and revenge.

Language[edit]

Orckin goblins speak Common and Goblin. Most also choose Orc as one of their bonus languages.

Names[edit]

Orckin goblins are born with an almost adult mentality right away, and this includes their name. Their names are both random and nonsensical, such as "Gobbledegook" or "Barbarbaran". More often they simply adopt nicknames from those around them and accept them as another name.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma: Stronger than your average goblin and tough as nails, they lack any sort of spine or moxie.
  • Aberration (Goblinoid, Orc): Born through unnatural means, they only look like goblins. In addition, they can count as orcs as well due to their orc blood.
  • Small: As a Small creature, an orckin goblins gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –4 size penalty on special attack (bull rushes, grapples, overruns, and trips) checks, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but it uses smaller weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.
  • Orckin Goblins base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Darkvision: An orckin goblins can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and an orckin goblins can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Coward (Ex): Orckin goblins are not the bravest. They take a -2 penalty against fear effects. On the other hand, they may withdraw from battle as a standard action and they receive Run as a bonus feat. The benefits of this are suppressed if the orckin goblin becomes immune to fear.
  • Gang Up (Ex): Orckin goblins do poorly solo, but in a group they become a bit more bold. When the orckin goblin and allies outnumber their opponents 2 to 1 or greater, the orkin goblin gains a +1 morale bonus to attack and damage. They also gain a +3 bonus on attacks while flanking instead of +2, regardless if they outnumber the opponents or not.
  • Genetic Memory (Ex): Because much of what a orckin goblin becomes is encoded in their genes, they are unusually easy to revive. Revival attempts which use a part of the body of the orckin goblin (such as with raise dead) do not have an XP cost, penalty to Con or negative levels, and only half the material cost as normal.
  • Military Endurance (Ex): Orckin goblins are bred as troops, they inherently know how to move in armor for long periods of time. They never damage or become fatigued or exhausted from forced marching. At 3 HD, an orckin goblin can move in medium armor or carry a medium load without reducing their speed. At 6 HD, the orckin goblin can wear heavy armor and carry a heavy load without reducing their speed.
  • Powerful Build (Ex): The physical stature of orckin goblins lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a orckin goblin is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the orckin goblin is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. An orckin goblin is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A orckin goblin can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category
  • Weapon Familiarity (Ex): Orckin goblins are proficient in all simple and martial weapons, and light armor and shields (but not tower shields). If they take a class which provides all martial weapon proficiency (such as fighter) they instead gain Exotic Weapon Proficiency for each new class which offers it.
  • Skills (Ex): Orckin goblins have a +2 racial bonus on hide and move silently checks.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, Goblin
  • Bonus Languages: Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Gnome, Gnoll, Halfling, Orc, Undercommon
  • Favored Class: Fighter or Rogue
  • Level Adjustment: +0
  • Effective Character Level: 1
