Unbound[edit]

You know, at first it was a terrible pain, but as time past I was born anew. I am my own master now.
—Machara, mimic unbound

An Unbound is a mimic who has outlived his or her master and used the power from the former bond to empower herself. They develop a strong resistance to any mind-affecting effects. Unbound are often admired among Mimics, seen as a hero who fought the intense sadness of losing one's master. Many don't forget about their old master, and may even want to bring him back.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Unbound.

Spellcasting or Manifesting: At each level, you gain new spells (or powers) per day and an increase in caster (or manifester) level (and spells (or powers) known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting (or manifesting) class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one spellcasting (or manifesting) class before becoming a Unbounded, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Freedom (Ex): At first level, an unbound is able to shield his mind from telepathic control. She gains a bonus against mind-affecting abilities equal to twice her Unbound level.

Mettle (Ex): At 2nd level, an unbound can resist magical or unusual attacks with great willpower of fortitude. If he makes a successful Will or Fortitude save against an attack that normally would have a lesser effect on a successful save (such as a spell with a saving throw entry of Will half or Fortitude partial), he instead completely negates the effect. An unconscious unbound does not gain the benefit of mettle.

Bind Others (Su): At third level, as a standard action an Unbounded may attempt to create a temporary bond to a target. This effect is identical to charm monster and can be used at will. If a creature succeeds her will save she cannot be affected by the bind others of that Unbound for 24 hours. An Unbounded may only control a number of creatures equal to her Unbounded level. The DC is based on the casting ability of the Unbounded spellcasting/manifesting class.

Telepathy (Su): At 4th an Unbounded gains telepathy out of 100 ft., this ability extended to 200 ft. for creatures affected by bind others.

Unbound Mind (Ex): At 5th level, a Unbound gain immunity to all Mind-Affecting effect. She may resume or supress this ability as a free action.

Note[edit]

Even if the Unbound's former master is revived, he cannot reestablish the bond. Thus, Unbounds effectively abandon all mental ties to their former master upon taking this PrC.
