|benefit=As a [[SRD:Standard Actions|standard action]], a 30 foot aura bursts from you, striking targets with fear and causing them to flee. Make an [[SRD:Intimidate Skill|Intimidate]] check opposed by the target's modified level check (1d20 + character level or [[SRD:Hit Dice|Hit Dice]] + target’s [[SRD:Wisdom|Wisdom]] bonus [if any] + target’s modifiers on saves against fear). Any target that fails becomes [[SRD:Panicked|panicked]] for 1 [[SRD:Round|round]]. A panicked creature must drop anything it holds and flee at top speed from you, as well as any other dangers it encounters, along a random path. It can’t take any other actions. In addition, the creature takes a –2 penalty on all [[SRD:Saving Throw|saving throws]], [[SRD:Skill Check|skill checks]], and [[SRD:Ability Check|ability checks]]. If cornered, a panicked creature cowers and does not attack, typically using the [[SRD:Standard Actions#Total Defense|total defense action]] in combat. A panicked creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape.

Aura of Epic Dread affects any target with an [[SRD:Intelligence|Intelligence]] score of 2 or higher. Aura of Epic Dread is a [[SRD:Special Abilities Overview#Supernatural|supernatural]] ability. This aura does not replace the effects of [[Aura of Dread (3.5e Grim Alteration)|Aura of Dread]] or [[Aura of Greater Dread (3.5e Grim Alteration)|Aura of Greater Dread]]. A grim may still opt to use either of these auras.
