This type is a substitute for the standard Plant Type and is NOT part of the SRD.

Plant Type[edit]

Plants with a bit more pizzazz.

This doesn’t cover your average, run-of-the-mill plants that are grown as crops (at least not by normal people) or found in the wilderness. These plants are evolved to the point of posing extreme danger to most things they come across, and are often found in the presence of other natural creatures that may incite their growth.

Even many of these plants are mindless. A flytrap doesn’t think about what it’s catching; it merely takes in stimuli from its environment and responds accordingly. This condition is not covered in the base plant traits, however; these plants merely gain the Mindless subtype in addition to the plant type.

Features[edit]

A plant creature has the following features.

Traits[edit]

A plant creature possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).

  • Plants are immune to diseases that affect other living creatures. Diseases that specifically harm plants, however, can still function normally.
  • A plant creature suffers no penalties for aging and cannot be magically aged, but incurs penalties identical to those acquired by aging (up to a maximum of those granted by their current age category) when targeted with a fire or water-draining effect. These penalties can be reverted by one minute of exposure to fresh water or an hour of healing from the Tap the Earth ability.
  • Photosynthesis (Ex): As long as it is in the sunlight or the area of a Light effect, a plant-type creature does not need to eat. When not in such conditions, they must eat normally. A plant that has spent at least eight hours of a day in sunlight no longer needs to eat for the rest of that day.
  • Tap the Earth (Ex): Plants take in nutrients through their root systems. By remaining still and not taking any actions for a whole hour when standing on soil, a plant may take root and gain fast healing equal to its Challenge Rating until it moves or acts again. For plants that are naturally sessile, this ability is always considered active and does not prevent them from taking other actions.
  • A plant creature may speak with other plants (as the speak with plants spell) at will. For the purposes of responding to this ability, even mindless plants are considered intelligent.
  • A plant is considered proficient in any natural weapons it possesses and any manufactured weapons it is indicated as having it its stat block.
  • Plants breathe and eat (although they can negate the need for the latter via photosynthesis), but do not sleep.
