Curse Eater Quelaan[edit]

The demigoddess Quelaan had taken pity on the mortals who suffered around her, and drew their suffering into herself. It freed her kin, but condemned her to a slow death. Yet the grateful populace would not forget and her memory persisted after she left the mortal coil.

Level: 4th

Binding DC: 21

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

There once was a small populace of people learned in the arts of magic of the soul. Though their reign was long all things must come to an end and their land fell prey to curses, disease, and suffering. Amongst them was Quelaan, a demigoddess worshiped in the area with her kin. Taking sympathy upon the suffering of her people she took the curses upon herself which freed her people but condemned her to a slow death from which even her immortality could not escape from. Ever grateful, the people's memory of her persists even after the eons of history and dispersal of this original realm.

Details on who Quelaan was in life are wrapped in mystery. She has been called "The Fair Lady" or "White Lady" and seems to have an association with both fire and spiders, often appearing as a pale drider-like creature or being surrounded by insects, maggots, and other insect-like beings.

Special summoning[edit]

You need to possess a ring, usually a signet ring, worth at least 5 gp. Without it, Quelaan does not seem to respond to calling attempts.

Manifestation[edit]

The ground bubbles and melts, and chaotic spider legs heft out part of the body of a drider whose human half is as pale as they are gaunt and frail. She whispers weakly, asking to bind so that her pain may ebb.

Sign[edit]

Your skin turns pale and hair turns white. As you take on more afflictions your body seems to wither.

Influence[edit]

You cannot abide to see others in suffering, even those who may be opponents. You do not apply negative status effects to others willingly, and will try and release others of their suffering. However you are not compelled to do so unreasonably, such as de-petrifying an opponent who wishes to kill you.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Absorb Affliction[edit]

With a standard action touch attack, you can draw an affliction someone is suffering with into yourself. The effect ends on them and affects you, but it doesn't cure any damage they took previously due to it. For example you can absorb a poison and need to make any subsequent saving throws, but it does not heal the primary save the original victim needed to make.

Life Drain[edit]

Perhaps an aspect of the demigoddess herself, the binder can draw out health from a target instead of afflictions. The binder may use vampiric touch at will.

Lowly[edit]

Your ability scores can never lower below 1, be it from ability damage or drain. You also cannot have any more negative levels than your HD -1.

Purge[edit]

As a standard action you can unbind from this vestige and cure all status effects and restore all ability damage, drain, and negative levels. This also happens automatically at the end of the binding. It does not restore lost hp or bring you back from the dead.

Resist Affliction[edit]

The binder gains their Charisma modifier to any save DCs against an effect that deals a status effect. Any effects with a duration are halved (minimum 1 round).

They benefit from the Dampen Affliction feat.
