Knight of the Wood

A ranger with several paladin traits, as they champion the cause of nature.

Class: Ranger

Level: 1-20

Replaces: Spellcasting, Favored Enemy bonuses, Combat Style, Endurance, Animal Companion, Improved Combat Style, Combat Style Mastery

Benefit: You gain the following class features:

Oath: The knight of the wood is a paladin of the wood, and typically swears and oath to protect the forest, hunt particular creatures, and other ranger-type things. If they violate the oath they create, they become unable to use the supernatural abilities of the knight of the wood until they atone. With that said, it's mostly a non-issue except for flavor.

Smite Favored Enemy (Su): At 1st level, the knight of the wood gains the smite ability of a paladin of his level, except instead of against evil creatures it applies against his favored enemy. Unlike the normal paladin, the knight of the wood uses the pathfinder paladin's smite evil (applying over the course of the battle, and applying to AC). It also uses it's Wisdom in place of Charisma for the purposes of smiting. The ranger can smite non-favored enemies, but receives only half the normal bonuses (minimum 1). This replaces Favored Enemy bonuses, but continues to gain favored enemy types as normal for a ranger.

Natural Grace (Su): At 2nd level, the knight of the wood gains the Divine Grace of a paladin, except it is Wisdom based. However it does not stack with Divine Grace or similar abilities, even if based on a different ability score. This replaces Combat Style.

Natural Health (Ex): At 3rd level, the knight of the wood gains the Divine Health of a paladin. This replaces Endurance.

Spellcasting: The knight of the wood's spellcasting draws from both the ranger and paladin spell lists.

Spirit of the Forest Companion (Ex): At 4th level, the knight of the wood gains the service of an animal companion that also acts like a paladin special mount, gaining the bonuses of both including the ability to summon it and the ability to replace it after 24 hours without penalty. This replaces the normal Animal Companion.

Turn Nature (Su): At 6th level, the knight of the wood gains turning as a cleric of their level, but it only applies against Aberrations and Constructs. Alternatively they can choose to instead rebuke Animals and Plants. Once chosen, the ability cannot be changed. Neither of these things are alignment based, and uses are based on Wisdom instead of Charisma. This replaces Improved Combat Style.

Share Smiting (Su): At 11th level, the knight of the wood's animal companion gains the same number of smite abilities as it's master and may use them as well. This replaces Combat Style Mastery.
