Meticulous Care
So long as you take care of your gear, it will take care of you.
Benefit: You may spend 30 minutes polishing, cleaning, inspecting, or sharpening your equipment to prevent any misfires, jams, or botches (such as mishaps or automatic failures on a natural 1) for the next 24 hours. This protection only applies to a single item, specified by the character. The item chosen need not be the same each day.
Drawback: In addition to the daily ritual time spent preening over your equipment, the best maintenance supplies are expensive and need replaced often. Treat your gear maintenance equipment (oils, whetstone, cleaning fabric, brushes, whatever) as equivalent to a healer's kit in cost (50 gp) and weight (1 lb) and likewise it is expended after 10 uses.
You have become accustomed to using your equipment, and only in the most tip-top condition. If you use a weapon, armor or shield that you have not maintained in the last week then you take a -2 penalty to attack rolls with that weapon, or suffer an additional -2 armor check penalty with that armor or shield.
Special: Examples of use: Armor or a protective item when used may prevent a natural 1 on a saving throw from being an automatic failure (though may still fail). A weapon will not automatically miss on a natural 1 (though it may still miss), and a firearm will not jam or misfire.
Roleplaying Ideas: You have an overly strong attachment to some of your equipment. You may even have pet names for your favorite items.
Jayne: This is the best gun made by man. It has extreme sentimental value. It's miles more worthy 'n what you got!
Mal: What I got? She has a name.
Jayne: So does this. I call it Vera.
