The grass was getting long. Right on time with the whir of spinning blades a small horseshoe crab shaped machine rolled out of the garage on soft padded wheels. The grass would be long no longer.

Those in the Luna-Tesla Corporation, the fine seller of industrial and military goods, would like to announce their entry into the world of home and garden care with their state of the art top of the line robotic lawn care equipment. Such is the MowBot-1969 Lawnmower, a robotic lawnmower able to take care of the lawn so you don't have to. Notice it's sleek matte black shell, its array of multiple optical cameras, and a guidance tail which doubles as a plug, so it can charge whenever it needs to.

The Luna-Tesla Corporation would like to remind you that the MowBot-1969 Lawnmower is perfectly safe. If there are any reported incidents of a MowBot-1969 Lawnmower activating a hidden kill command and hunting down pets, small children, and the elderly, please return your MowBot-1969 Lawnmower for a full refund.

The MowBot doesn't speak, and is about the size of a normal lawnmower. It looks quite a lot like a horseshoe crab.

Combat[edit]

MowBots are deliberately designed for safety, and are only a threat to Diminutive or smaller creatures on the ground, and really only when the machine is malfunctioning. However dangerous individuals may mod them to be able to attack, transforming the humble lawn and garden care robot into a deadly dervish of blades. Thanks to its extending rotating blade and variable suspension wheels, it can even project itself in powerful jumps in order to strike its dangerous lower half against creatures far larger than itself.

Kip Up (Ex): Lawnmowers undersides are really dangerous, so as a safety feature it is designed never to be upside down. It can flip back onto its feet (well, wheels) as a free action with the flip of its tail. This does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Leap Attack (Ex): Attacking is not an intended function of lawnmowers and voids its warranty immediately (as well as breaks several laws), but in the rare event of such an occurrence the powerful suspension and springs within its wheel base allows it to jump and attack creatures larger than it, bottom-first. Lawnmowers deal 3d4 damage as a standard action, and it uses exploding dice. That is, if a maximum result (4) is rolled, you roll another 1d4 dice of damage. Continue to roll dice until you do not get a result of 4.

Loud (Ex): Lawnmowers are pretty loud, even with their noise cancellation systems. Those within 30 ft of a lawnmower take a -4 penalty to Listen checks. Those within 5 ft of a lawnmower must make Concentration checks (DC 15 + twice spell or power level), and creatures with blindsense and blindsight based on hearing temporary lose it while the lawnmower is within range.

Mow Down (Ex): Lawnmowers can make trample attempts, but only against Diminutive or smaller creatures. The trample deals 5d4 damage, and is subject to the exploding dice of Leap Attack. This is also considered an area effect for the purposes of interacting with swarms. The DC is 12, and is Dexterity based instead of Strength based.

Mulch (Ex): Lawnmowers can reduce anything they destroy with their blades into mulch. This is normally grass, which comes out of a compartment as rich compost for further lawn care purposes. In the rare event of an attack or accident, it is also capable of reducing bodies of Medium size or smaller to mulch as well. This destroys the body.

Programming: The lawnmower possesses the following programs: Job Function (lawn care), Identify Object, Reposition, Search.

Construction[edit]

MowBot-1969 Lawnmowers are build out of a composite of many different metals, plastics, and alloys which must be processed in a factory. In addition its computer core requires special components and programming. The cost of the base material components are worth 540 gp.

Assembling the body requires a DC 17 Craft (technology) check, a DC 17 Knowledge Engineering, or a DC 17 Knowledge Xeno check.

CL 7th; Craft Construct, lesser geas, steeldanceSpC; Price 5,400 gp; Cost 2430 gp + 194 XP.
