Sandy Gust
Sand Mage Lesser; 4th
Wind Mage Lesser; 4th

This invocation acts like gust of wind, except that a large amount of sand is conjured and mixed into the gust. This causes all creatures in the line of effect to take 4 damage per caster level in addition to the effects of the gust itself, with a Reflex save allowed to halve this extra damage. Furthermore, the extra sand damage is not one great big attack, but hundreds of tiny, individually insignificant attacks all occurring simultaneously. This means that damage reduction and hardness do apply against the sand damage (the damage from the sand is treated as all magic, half slashing, and half bludgeoning for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction), and are actually treated as twice their actual value (for instance, DR 3 would be treated as DR 6); the damage to each target is further reduced by its AC.

This invocation is cast rather differently by wind mages and sand mages. Wind mages cast this invocation with more of an emphasis on the wind, expanding the line to 80 feet; sand mages conjure up more sand, increasing the sand damage to 6 per caster level.

This invocation is an [Air] and [Earth] effect.
