The 'Grand Unification Theory' is the culmination of all of the legendary mystic theurge Motskalla Sarcus' life experiences. Having studied countless forms of arcane magic, the miracles of the divine, spiritualism, psionic power, and even ki, mundane physics and technology, she postulated that though these things all influence the world around them in different ways they shared unmistakable similarities in just one key aspect; the observer. The types of forces used and the principles behind them relied purely on one's personal understanding of them to take effect upon the world, as all forces are leant credence and vindication by being observed by a knowing mind. In this vein, 'magic', 'psionics' and 'science' are simply lower-dimensional projections of this all-encompassing reality. The ability to manifest one's very will through intrinsic understanding of the fabric of the multiverse goes beyond being able to manipulate mere limited reflections of it, and is the true mark of Godhood. Seeking this joining together of everything, Motskalla poured all of her centuries of knowledge and power into creating a tool that became known as the greatest of Motskalla Sarcus' 10 'divine treasures': the Staff of Unification.

However, as neither humans nor Gods can grasp the true infinity of reality, this great artifact was destined to remain 'incomplete' and forever shy of true perfection. Despite its incompleteness, it has been irrevocably inscribed in history as a mythical relic that made one human woman capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with Gods.

Created near the end of Motskalla's mortal life with intent to prevent a rogue God of Destruction from returning the material universe to zero, the Staff of Unification was instrumental in the ensuing battle. The staff was created with the help of divine materials and various artifact-tier components, and imbued with thousands of different forms of magic and technology to finally create the desired effect. The staff itself was forged with proto-orichalcum, containing aggregates of crystalline proteum to draw in ambient energies, while the head of the staff is fashioned from embossed dark platinum. Other materials used in the creation are transmundane steel, creating ivory-colored patterns across the shaft, and aemulus which pulses through the core of the staff like its life's blood.

The head of the staff is shaped like an octagonal ring embossed with the eight triagrams, each of which corresponding to a great many different things: the eight natures, the various yins and yangs comprising the Limitless and the Absolute, the eight personalities and inclinations of man, and the eight schools of magic only being a few of them.

While the staff of unification is not held, its many innate enchantments cause it to hover vertically in place a few feet above ground until grabbed.

In order to make optimum use of this staff, both a high Intelligence and Wisdom is required.

The staff of unification functions as a +6/+6 quarterstaff. Any attacks made with the staff or spells or powers used with the staff as a focus all deal cosmic damage on top of their usual damage types. Beyond this, the staff grants the following abilities if the wielder's Intelligence and Wisdom are both over a certain amount. For the purpose of any effective salient abilities granted by the staff, the wielder's effective divine rank is equal to half the lesser of his or her Intelligence and Wisdom scores, to a maximum of 20.

Intelligence and Wisdom 20 or higher[edit]

  • All your spells, powers, spell-like abilities and psi-like abilities you possess become supernatural abilities; your spells and powers no longer care about spell- or power resistance, can no longer be dispelled in the same manner as spells or powers can, but otherwise function exactly the same (including their casting times) and are still canceled out by an antimagic or null psionics field.
  • You no longer have any prohibited spell schools or psionic disciplines.
  • What is arcane magic, divine magic or psionics is interchangable for you. You may treat arcane spells as divine or vice versa if the result is to your benefit. You may even treat magic as psionics or psionics as magic if doing so is somehow useful to you. However, in order to make one type of magic or psionics into another, you must have at least 1 level in a class capable of using said type of magic or psionics. Someone with levels in Sorcerer and wilder can make arcane spells act like psionics and vice versa, but can't make a power act as a divine spell.
  • You gain Create Object as a salient ability.
  • You gain a powerful shield against damage. This acts as the Divine Shield salient ability except that it doesn't disappear if its hit points are reduced to zero. You can use a full-round action to restore your shield to full hit points.
  • The following effects are constantly active on you: analyze dweomer, arcane sight, detect thoughts.

Intelligence and Wisdom 25 or higher[edit]

  • Your understanding of the tapestry of the cosmos and the workings of reality will make all abilities you have become extraordinary in nature. Spells and powers as well as spell-like and psi-like abilities are longer subject to any form of dispelling, inherent spell or power resistance, and nothing you do is affected by antimagic or null psionics. Other than this, all your spells and powers function exactly the same as before.
  • The sources of all of your spells and powers become one. Your spell lists and power points merge together into one solitary pool that contains the sum total of spell slots and power points across all of your spellcasting and manifesting classes. You may use all of your spell slots to prepare any spell you know, as well as spontaneously convert to any spell that you can cast spontaneously. You may use power points to spontaneously cast spells you know as a spontaneous caster, costing a number of power points that a power one level higher would cost to manifest. You may use spell slots to spontaneously convert to psionic powers you know, requiring a spell slot 1 level higher as the power's level. You may also choose to pre-emptively spend power points in order to prepare spells you know as a prepared spellcaster at the same cost conversion rate as manifesting spontaneous spells.
  • You gain Alter Reality and Create Greater Object as a salient ability.
  • The following effect is constantly active on you: foresight.

Intelligence and Wisdom 30 or higher[edit]

  • You are immune to all spells and powers that you yourself know spontaneously or that you have prepared, and can manipulate any such spell or power as a free action to not affect any of your allies. On any of these spells and powers that you know, you can use the Instant Counterspell salient ability.
  • You are under a constant Norton's copied casting effect, rendering you capable of reproducing any type of spell or power witnessed since the end of your last turn. Instead of casting it, you may choose to spend a full-round action to learn it. You can neither learn nor reproduce spells or powers of a type that you cannot cast normally.
  • You gain Divine Creation as a salient ability.
  • For the purpose of your Alter Reality salient ability, the area within a 60-foot-emanation centered upon the staff of unification counts as your divine home.
