A Balance Discussion[edit]

This aligned crystal stuff is all over the map in terms of power (that is, appropriateness when compared to other materials in the game and how it affects gameplay when introduced). Let's compare the table to adamantine to start, since both have 40 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 20. Also, keep in mind that adamantine includes masterwork costs in those listings.

Type of Item Aligned Crystal Cost Adamantine Cost
Ammunition +2,000 gp +60 gp
Light armor +1,000 gp +5,000 gp
Medium armor +2,000 gp +10,000 gp
Heavy armor +5,000 gp +15,000 gp
Shield +1,000 gp 2,000 gp
Weapon +2,000 gp 3,000 gp
Other +158 gp per pound

Now, both materials also function vastly differently. I also have to assume that aligned crystal item weighs as much as a typical item would, since it isn't listed. Departure calls for now. I shall finish this comment later. --Ganteka Future 22:46, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
