Ratings[edit]

RatedNeutral.png Kyubii is neutral on this article and rated it 2 of 4.
Only the most gluttonous for punishment GMs would ever allow their players to take the maneuvers.

This definitely goes into my top 5 for Mary Sue creation kits.

What's the other four? LenKagetsu (talk) 10:28, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
Mary Sue is more a matter of characterization. Power-wise, pretty much any subset of D&D material can be seen as a Mary Sue creation kit, since a lot of people will go for idealized characters that are awesome in many ways. This is pretty much the same as judging an NPC that wields dual scimitars purely by his similarity to Drizzt Do'Urden. Perhaps Kyubii should offer a more in-depth explanation of how he or she arrived at his/her rating in terms of the article's subject matter. --Sulacu (talk) 13:44, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Other Weapons[edit]

Would you think this is appropriate to use for any ranged combatant? For example, bowman or crossbowman? Ignoring the flavor for a moment, do you feel it would still be mechanically balanced for other ranged types? --Be well 04:20, April 3, 2010 (UTC)

Maneuvers that do straight damage get a little better, maneuvers that let you do things like reload get a little worse, but the change is negligible and if a discipline is balanced for any weapon of a given reach (putting all ranged weapons here into the same reach - weapons that have short range and thus benefit from Black Rain's line-attack strikes and such are usually weak weapons anyway), it should balanced for every weapon of the same reach. - Viatos 04:24, April 16, 2010 (UTC)
Good to hear. I've been looking for Disciplines that ranged characters can use and this is one of the few I've found. Given that it was made for firearms, with which I have no D20 experience, I wasn't sure if it could be applied to regular ranged weapons. Thanks for clearing that up :) --Be well 19:49, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

Balance[edit]

Why is this fighter-level? Seems more rogue-level to me. --Ghostwheel 03:20, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

Anyone disagree with changing this to rogue-level? --Ghostwheel 00:43, April 16, 2010 (UTC)
It looks rogue to me. That, and it is awesome. --Andrew Arnott (talk, email) 00:47, April 16, 2010 (UTC)

Deadeye Sniper Gaze[edit]

Deadeye Sniper Gaze: Stance — Ignore range and concealment penalties, deal extra damage on critical hits with firearms.

This is the description for the stance but the actual page for it mentions nothing about getting extra damage from critical hits. So what is the deal? Is it supposed to give extra damage or not? 78.84.202.95 09:53, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure what the author intended, but the GitP copy has the same exact text. I changed the summary, since text trumps summary. --Havvy 09:58, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Just...majestic.[edit]

Cool maneuvers that have superior versions at higher levels, allowing you to replace them easily and clear up space on your maneuver list, and the raw murder that is those Level 8 and 9s. But my favorite part of this discipline? Those. Fucking. Names. Blossom of Iron Petals? Heaven-Shattering Volley? Who comes up with this shit?! A genius, that's who. -SecondDeath777 19:14, 16 September 2017

New Maneuvers?[edit]

I had considered making some new gun-related maneuvers and assigning them the Black Rain discipline, but was unsure if anyone would be upset by that, considering this is copied from GitP is I am correct. So before I do any of that, may I? --Zhenra-Khal (talk) 01:21, 3 June 2018 (MDT)

Seeing as I've gone from D&D to a sort of free-form hybrid, it won't really affect me personally if you do, but your work has always struck a chord with me, and Black Rain was always a favorite of mine, so even if I never end up using them, I'd personally be really excited to see what you have in mind. You've got my vote. -SecondDeath777 14:52, 3 June 2018
Oh, thank you! I didn't know I had any fans. It's mostly going to be things like a "fan the hammer" type deal and some other things as they strike my fancy. The existing maneuvers are already amazing without any addition from me. --Zhenra-Khal (talk) 18:47, 3 June 2018 (MDT)
You kidding? You don't get to make shit as cool as the Entropic Wanderer and not have fans. Go wild, I'm looking forward to whatever you come up with. -SecondDeath777 21:26, 3 June 2018
