Because they asked for it[edit]

When I showed a few of my friends the Mage Monk class, they said that it made more sense to them that a monk would get to cast spells as a cleric, not a sorcerer. This was not a big deal for me. In fact, I didn't even have to change much as I copied and pasted the features of the (sorcerer) mage monk to the cleric variant.
I fully realize that there isn't a huge ton of originality in this prestige class. This is basically just a workaround for anyone who's ever started with a monk and then wished they could cast spells (I know I'm one of those people).
