Mechanics[edit]

Not familiar with this weave stuff so I might be missing something, but how does this item work exactly? The mechanics are absent. -- Eiji-kun 07:06, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

"Any oath sworn while holding onto the Oath Rod cannot be willfully broken". How do I make this more clear? --Foxwarrior 21:12, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
How is it activated? Under what circumstances are you compelled to keep your oath? Is it a mind-affecting compulsion effect? It is magical? Can an antimagic field or protection from evil/mind blank type spells shut off the control. Can it be broken by any means, including Wish and Miracle? Is there a saving throw if you're unwilling or you were forced into the oath under some other compulsion. These questions can vary it's power, and price, by a great deal. It might be a Suggestion, or it might be an Uber Dominate Person which breaks through all mental barriers and forces behavior on others. Also what effect does the odd inclusion of accelerated aging do mechanically? We must know. -- Eiji-kun 00:15, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
Activation is simply the act of saying oaths while holding onto the rod (a free action, I suppose), no saving throws are offered, and the only practical cure involves having an Oath Rod handy. It is a lot more like Uber Dominate Person than like Suggestion. Accelerated aging makes you old more quickly. --Foxwarrior 03:15, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
I assume your oaths are negated while in an anti-magic field. What happens when you throw the rod into an antimagic field? What happens if you destroy the magic item, or dispel it? Also, I think you are missing a word: "There are only way to permanently undo the oaths" --Havvy 03:30, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
The rod has no influence over obedience to the oaths once they are sworn. If you blow up the rod, it will only become harder to get rid of the oaths, since you won't have an Oath Rod to unswear with any more. --Foxwarrior 03:39, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
