Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Ebon Knight.

Black Rage (Ex): Every time you are hit for at least 10% of your maximum health you gain a "vengeance charge", for every 5% beyond the initial 10% you gain an additional charge. Each vengeance charge increases your melee damage by 1(this damage is not multiplied by criticals). These charges last 1 round per level plus your strength mod. You may have a maximum number of vengeance counters equal to your unmodified strength or constitution score(whichever is higher).

Mana (Su): The Ebon Knight increases his mana pool by 2 every level level.

Retribution Shield (Sp): When dealt damage in melee the knight may unleash electric vengeance upon his foe. For every 5% of his maximum health taken in damage, the knight can automatically deal 1d6 electricity damage and may increase the damage by spending vengeance charges, each charge spent adds 1d6 electricity damage, and the damage caps at 11d6(total damage not just bonus). Plus while active the knight gains electricity resistance equal to 5 plus his knight level + his current amount of vengeance charges. Using this ability costs 2 mana and lasts for 1 round per level plus one round for every vengeance charge the knight has at the time of casting. This is equivalent to a 2nd level spell.

Electric Purge (Sp): This spell deals 1d4 electric damage per level to everything in 10 feet(including knight) plus 2d4 electric damage per vengeance charge spent. The dice cap is equal to the knights constitution score. The knight regains lost vengeance charges from this damage but at a slower rate than normal. For every 10% of his health dealt by this ability, he gains one vengeance charge. This ability costs 5 mana to use and is considered a 3rd level spell.

Winds of the Storm (Sp): The knight may cast Defenestrating Sphere as the spell.

Vengeful Casting (Su): The Ebon Knight may substitute up to 50%(rounded down) of a mana cost with vengeance charge.

Fury of Crosis (Su): Once per encounter as a free action, when the knight is at 50% or less health. The knight gains vengeance charges at a rate of 2 per round and gain an additional vengeance charge every time you would gain one from another source. He also gains immunity to mind affecting effects and electricity, and gains a +2 sacred bonus to str dex and con. Lasts 2 rounds plus the knight's constitution bonus.

Ex-Ebon Knights[edit]

By disobeying a tenet of Crosis the knight is cast from the ranks and becomes an ex knight. Ex knights are never allowed into the city of Braxis and if spotted by another ebon knight they will come under attack

Campaign Information[edit]

Playing an Ebon Knight[edit]

Combat: Ebon Knights typically serve on the front line of combat. Due to their unique ability to gain power from being damaged, it is obviously a good idea to be closer to ones enemies.

Advancement: This class was designed with the Knight class in mind. The knight class can force enemies to attack you and is thus ideal for gaining vengeance counters.

Resources: Members of the Temple of the Ebon Storm can expect little in the way of monetary resources, but a wealth in information an contacts. Being the elite largest standing empire, it allows the member access to things that would ordinarily be unattainable.

Ebon Knights in the World[edit]

The common folk see us as tyrants; The poor fools do not see just how much we are their saviors.

Ebon Knights serve a largely military purpose as they were formed to combat the elemental beasts of Banjudar. Outside of commanding troops they serve as personal retainers to the nobility of Phyrexia.

NPC Reactions: How NPCs react to Ebon Knights depends largely upon personal experience. Although one can expect considerably more respect in the homeland of Phyrexia

Ebon Storm Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Knowledge(Nobility) can research Temple of the Ebon Storm to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

snarf
DC Result
11 Ebon Knights are one of two castes for the Temple. The other are the Lightning Monks.
16 Ebon Knights gain strength from their wounds and there are many items made for their personal use.
21 Ebon Knights are actually lower in rank than the Lightning Monks, who seem to have magical control over them.
26 The blood given up by the Ebon Knight during initiation is used in a magical binding ceremony. Connecting them with all other Knights

Ebon Knights in the Game[edit]

Ebon Knights are the core of the party and rely on them as much as others rely on him. By being able to dish out massive damage makes him critical for tough enemies, although he needs the support of his allies to survive through multiple battles.

Adaptation: This class is relatively flexible and could just as easily be the result of a demonic pact or some barbarian training.
